Nobody enjoys facing engine problems, but identifying issues early on can be beneficial.

There are many problems a car can have as vehicles have so many moving parts. However, engine issues can be a nightmare. This is because of how expensive they can be for auto mechanics to fix. Luckily, there are some signs drivers can look out for that could signal that the engine may be having issues. Recently, one well-known car expert took to social media to share five ways to know your engine may need some attention.

Engine problems rank among the most serious issues a car can experience.

The engine is among the most critical components of a car, which means it can also cause many problems. Drivers can often keep their engines running with proper maintenance, which includes things like regular oil changes. However, some behaviors can cause premature engine issues, such as accelerating too rapidly and not allowing the car to warm up before driving. Additionally, some engines aren’t built as well as others, so they may be predisposed to failure.

Having trouble starting your car can indicate a serious problem.

As many auto mechanics will say, having difficulty starting a vehicle can indicate many car problems. However, Andy’s Auto Advice on TikTok recently shared that it’s also a sign you may need engine work before it’s too late. This is especially the case if you experience sputtering while trying to start the car.

A power outage can indicate a problem.

He goes on to mention that experiencing a drop in power can indicate potential engine issues with your car. Drivers might notice that operating the vehicle feels more challenging and that its performance isn't up to par. This phenomenon can also be referred to as the car stuttering. Importantly, this can occur at any speed you are traveling.

A rough idle is another issue that may indicate your engine is experiencing difficulties.

Most auto mechanics concur that experiencing a rough idle when starting your vehicle indicates potential engine issues. According to them, this could stem from problems with the intake system or a faulty sensor, so it's advisable to have it inspected.

Pale vapor

Numerous car issues can present as significant amounts of white smoke. According to Andy, this could indicate the necessity for an engine inspection. This holds true no matter the weather. Importantly, this may suggest that your cherished vehicle is burning coolant, pointing to a potential problem with the head gasket.

Decrease in fuel efficiency

Issues with your vehicle's engine can result in decreased fuel efficiency. This typically manifests as a significant drop in gas mileage rather than a minor variation. Many other automotive experts echo this sentiment as well.
