This weekend marks the return of one of the most prestigious events in off-road racing: the Parker 400. Events will mostly take place from Jan. 16 - Jan.18.
Parker boasts a rich and illustrious legacy in off-road racing, serving as one of the original venues for organized competitions. For over five decades, this location has been the backdrop for thrilling races.
The race organizers, Matt and Josh Martelli, are at the helm of the Unlimited Off-Road Racing Series, which includes notable events like the Mint 400 and the California 300. Their insights into the industry were greatly influenced by the late Casey Folks, who was a key figure in the Best in the Desert Racing Association. From 2003 until 2022, BITD was responsible for the Parker races.
A significant portion of the events will take place in a region located behind Avi Suquilla Airport, referred to as the CRIT Gauntlet. This name reflects its location on territory owned by the Colorado River Indian Tribes and pays homage to “The Gauntlet,” which originated from races organized by Whiplash Motor Sports. This area features the starting and finishing lines and is well-known for its exciting jumps and sharp turns that captivate racing enthusiasts. It has been a favorite spot for spectators and campers alike. Access to this area is available from the junction of Mohave Road and Mutuhar Drive.
In fact, there will be multiple races taking place. A motorcycle race has been scheduled for Thursday, January 16, coinciding with the qualifying trials. Additionally, there will be various youth races on January 17 and 18. The main events are set for Friday, January 17, and Saturday, January 18. Be sure to consult the event schedule for specific times and venues.
