You may have seen a Rivian van delivering Amazon packages or running errands around town, but you probably didn’t know that the automaker sold more of them than Ford’s electric E-Transit or the new Chevrolet Brightdrop van.

In the previous year, Rivian achieved sales of 13,423 vans, marking a significant increase of 66 percent compared to the 8,091 units sold in 2023. Ford followed closely behind with 12,610 E-Transits sold, while Brightdrop recorded a modest 1,529 units sold. Despite ranking second, Ford experienced a remarkable 64 percent growth in electric van sales in 2024. Additionally, Rivian's R1S SUV gained traction, earning a spot among the top ten best-selling electric vehicles in the United States for 2024.

Commercial sales account for a large share of the figures in question. Regular consumers can purchase a Ford E-Transit directly from the manufacturer's website, but the vans from Rivian and GM aren't available for general sale. A significant portion of Rivian's vans are expected to be delivered to Amazon, which has a contract with the company to supply 100,000 electric vans by 2030. Although the two had an initial exclusive agreement, Rivian managed to negotiate its way out of the Amazon-only restriction while still keeping the contract to manufacture the vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz secured the fourth position with its eSprinter, which began production in late 2023 at the South Carolina facility. The company sold just 191 vans last year, probably because it is among the lesser-known electric commercial vehicles currently available on the market.
