Fed up with endlessly scrolling through Netflix and grumbling about the lack of fresh content? This captivating thriller could be just what you need to break the monotony.
Debuting on New Year's Day, "Missing You" is a short limited series consisting of only five episodes, ideal for viewers who prefer less of a time commitment. The story follows Detective Kat Donovan (played by Rosalind Eleazar) as she unexpectedly reconnects on a dating app with her fiancé, Josh, who mysteriously disappeared from her life eleven years ago.
"Kat soon realises that Josh (Ashley Walters) might be connected to a missing persons case she's investigating, as well as her father's murder," a Netflix teaser reads. "Now with more questions than ever, Kat begins to wonder who she can trust as she tries to uncover what really happened." Scoring a somewhat respectable 6.1/10 on IMDB, this show has hooked viewers across the nation - leaving them all saying the exact same thing. Naturally, you might want to look away if you don't want the thriller's plot twists being exposed.

In just five short episodes, a whirlwind of events unfolds. For those still processing the finale, which fittingly concludes with John Waite's song Missing You, here’s a brief recap: Kat begins to uncover the truth about Josh's connection to her father's death. It is revealed that her father had an affair prior to his murder and was involved with a notorious crime lord. The final scene depicts Kat and Josh sitting together on a bed, where he admits to accidentally taking her father's life. With tears welling in her eyes, Kat gazes into the distance, and the scene ends abruptly as she gently places her hand on his, suggesting a hint of forgiveness may linger between them.
Swathes of social media users couldn't help share their thoughts following the series of plot twists. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) one user wrote: "Missing You on Netflix is one of them shows that make you jump out of your seat CAUSE WTF IS HAPPENING?" Another agreed, commenting: "Just finished 'Missing you' on Netflix and wtf.." A third added: "Missing You on Netflix was good until the plot started to unravel. They lost it I fret," while a fourth penned: "Missing You on Netflix… crazy. Like I knew who the killer was but the reason he was killed…? NUTS!"
Some viewers were more positive about the series, with numerous X users praising it as 'fantastic' and expressing their desire for a follow-up season. Nevertheless, it seems unlikely that this will come to fruition. "As with all of Harlan Coben's previous Netflix adaptations, Missing You is a limited series," IMDB noted. "This indicates that it was intended to be a standalone series, featuring a complete narrative within just one season. While some might contend that the conclusion left room for further exploration, that's simply not the case. The mystery thriller concluded in a manner very similar to the ending of the Missing You novel."
