MUMBAI, India (AP) — Reports indicate that Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was injured in a stabbing incident during a confrontation with an intruder at his residence early Thursday morning. He has since been hospitalized and received surgery.
The 54-year-old actor was transported to the hospital from his residence in Mumbai, which serves as India's financial and entertainment hub. He resides there with his film star spouse, Kareena Kapoor, and their two sons.
According to a doctor at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, as reported by the Press Trust of India, two out of the six wounds were severe, with one located close to his spine.
According to reports from Indian media, law enforcement officials stated that an intruder broke into Khan's residence around 2:30 a.m. and escaped after stabbing him. They also mentioned that a female staff member at Khan's house sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving medical care.
Law enforcement officials are conducting an investigation and have initiated a search for the assailant.
Kapoor, the wife of Khan, released a statement assuring that their family is doing well and urged “the media and fans to remain patient and refrain from further speculation as the police are currently conducting their investigations.”
Khan, a movie producer as well, has appeared in approximately 70 films and TV shows. He is the offspring of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, and Sharmila Tagore, a renowned Bollywood actress.
He has garnered numerous accolades for his performances in Hindi films, securing seven Filmfare Awards among them. In 2010, he was honored with the Padma Shri, which is the fourth highest civilian award in India.
