About 12,000 units of Great Value chicken broth, a Walmart store-brand base for soups and other meals, was recalled beginning last month. The advisory was published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Jan. 8. According to the FDA, the broth was produced by Tree House Foods Inc. in British Columbia. The recall did not come with a risk assessment, and officials did not indicate whether any consumers had reported negative health effects. The broth needs to be taken back to Walmart for a refund. The retail giant has not yet responded to an email inquiry from NJ Advance Media seeking comment. The recall affected only Walmart locations in Alabama and Arkansas; however, reports indicate that the products were also distributed to stores in Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Authorities announced that the recall was issued due to "possible packaging issues that may jeopardize the product's sterility, leading to spoilage."
